Zoning
The Zoning Division enforces the City of Columbia’s zoning ordinance to preserve, protect and strengthen city neighborhoods. It implements the city's land use policies to protect the character, harmony and stability of residential and business areas. The division also maintains and updates the city's official zoning maps.
Zoning determines the size and use of buildings, where they are located and, in large measure, the densities of the city’s diverse neighborhoods. Zoning is also a key tool for carrying out planning policy.
